We all know that doing a PhD is difficult at times but often we don’t feel comfortable to talk about the problems that we face. In this workshop, we would like to invite you to do just that. In addition to group and plenary discussions, participants will learn about potential ways to deal with difficulty in a functional way. We will focus on self-compassion as a tool that has been proven to boost PhD students’ well-being. We will also share some of the research on PhD students’ well-being that has been conducted at the University of Amsterdam over the past two years.

In this stress relief meeting we will trace destructive and dysfunctional thoughts using cognitive therapy techniques. Dysfunctional thoughts are often the root of negative feelings like a fear of failure and (study)stress. Together we will practice to find more helpful and constructive thoughts. Knowledge of the cognitive model will also be applicable in any challenging situation you have to face.
